Initiation

Applicants will meet each other and the Allies that will be walking alongside them throughout their journey. They will know there is a team behind them at all times.

Training

Applicants will complete the Chalmers Center Work Life curriculum while training with professional chefs in food preparation skills.

Internship

As training is completed, Applicants will have a chance to run a real business by working on our fully operational food truck, a real business serving real people.

Lasting change

As the internship is completed, Applicants will work with Allies to see how to advance their career, either within Fillmore Square, or at another institution/company.

We are recruiting for the following individuals:

  • Currently unemployed or underemployed who are experiencing barriers to employment
  • Minimum age of 18 years old but preferably 25+ years old
  • Preferably from the Fillmore District


Our 6 months faith-based training program is divided into two phases as detailed below.

1. Training Phase:  A 10 week (27 hours per week in person and 13 hours per week at home practice) intensive culinary and leadership development program providing you the skills necessary to succeed in the food service industry.  This training is free, and trainees will be given a stipend for living expenses.

2. Internship Phase:  A 15 week on-the-job training as you prepare menu items in the kitchen and sell them on a food truck right here in the Fillmore.  Interns will be paid $18 / hour.

After the 6 months, we will work with you to support you in one of the following career pathways:
1. Employment at Fillmore Square
2. Employment at one of our partner food establishments in the city
3. Mentorship in starting a food business

As a disclaimer, our training will come from a Christian perspective, but a trainee does not have to believe in what we believe in and will not be treated any differently if he/she has no religious preference or belongs to another religion.  We are not here to force any beliefs on anyone and instead are looking to lovingly serve and support anyone that comes through Fillmore Square.

Note:  If hired, a Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, must be completed at the start of employment.
